Screening Process

MedPartners HIM employs ten full time recruiters that do nothing but locate, hire, reference and retain the best and brightest HIM professionals across the country.  Our hiring process is rigorous and results in passing through an average of 10% of those who apply. This reduces the number of people who join our team and makes our recruiting efforts more difficult; however, we are assured of hiring the most qualified HIM professionals in the country.

Each candidate is interviewed by the recruiter to assess their skills.  They are required to take the MedPartners HIM Pre-Employment Coding Test authored by AHIMA that coordinates with the skill set found on the applicant resume. Each test is compiled of sections covering:

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Inpatient and/or Outpatient Coding (ICD-9,CPT,HCPCS)
  • Facility Fee E&M
  • Professional Fee E&M

If they receive a passing score on the Pre-Employment coding test, they are interviewed by our Compliance Manager in order to assume the proper match. Three professional references are conducted on each applicant and background/drug screens are done as needed. Each MedPartners HIM employee is given a corporate membership to AHIMA and or AAPC. This membership allows us to offer remote access to continuing education credits to our consultants.  This is a huge advantage for MedPartners HIM, which allows our consultants to gain the valuable continuing education that the HIM field demands without missing work.

In addition to these steps, each candidate must be credentialed (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-H) with a minimum of 5 years of experience.  There is no substitute for experience.  When MedPartners HIM hires HIM Professionals, we make sure they have the training, credentials and knowledge to make a difference at your facility.  Our consultants have an average of 16.5 years of experience, which means you can be confident in their coding ability.

MedPartners HIM consultants are required to maintain continuing educations credits as required by the designated credentialing association.  Our partnership with AHIMA provides on-line continuing education modules to assist MedPartners HIM consultants in achieving their annual continuing requirement.  These modules contain current coding issues, new regulations, HIM Management, Compliance, Oncology Data Management, Present on Admission, and other relevant topics.  All coding consultants are required to complete 10CE credits in addition to maintaining their credentials through our internal education program, via the on-line education module or audio-conferences.  These mandatory modules relate to the coding updates and new hot topics within HIM.  Additionally, each consultant is provided a copy of the AMA’s CPT Assistant monthly and the AHA’s Coding Clinic quarterly. MedPartners HIM offers frequent email announcements that highlight coding changes and hot topics in coding. MedPartners HIM encourages employee to employee communication on coding topics.  MedPartners HIM coders must submit evidence of obtaining any continuing education credits from non-AHIMA courses to their recruiters.  This information is maintained in their file at our corporate office.  MedPartners HIM also offers a $100 per year allowance to all employees for personal CE’s. Personal CE’s are intended to add value to the employee quality of life by enhancing communication skills and personal relationships contributing to a happier, well rounded staff member.

MedPartners HIM also issues an internal newsletter that is distributed to all of our consultants.  It is called MedPartners HIM Recorder and offers information related to internal process changes, company and coding updates as well as recognition and encouragement for travel employees. The Recorder is one tool used to link our staff together and communicate valuable information which results in better informed, happier staff.
